Mobile Puncture Repair in Northampton
Picked up a nail or a screw? We'll come to you, inspect the tyre properly and repair it to British Standard BS AU 159 where it is safe to do so — or replace it on the spot if it isn't.
Safe Puncture Repairs, Done Properly
A slow puncture is one of the most common tyre problems we see in Northampton. Often a single nail or screw is to blame, and in many cases the tyre can be repaired safely rather than replaced — saving you money and keeping a good tyre in use.
TyreGO carries out mobile puncture repairs to British Standard BS AU 159, the UK standard for repairing car and van tyres. That means a proper repair from the inside, not a temporary plug pushed in from the outside. We come to your driveway, workplace car park or a safe roadside location, so you don't have to drive on a deflating tyre to a garage.
How we carry out a puncture repair
- We remove the wheel and take the tyre off the rim so it can be inspected inside and out.
- We check where the damage is, how big it is, and whether driving while under-inflated has damaged the tyre internally.
- If the tyre is repairable, we prepare the damaged area and fit a combined repair that seals the injury from the inside.
- We refit the tyre, inflate it to the correct pressure, balance the wheel and check for leaks.
Can My Tyre Be Repaired?
Not every puncture can be repaired safely. BS AU 159 sets out where and when a repair is acceptable, and we'll always explain our decision before doing any work. As a general guide:
Usually repairable
A small puncture, such as a nail or screw, in the central part of the tread, in a tyre with legal tread depth and no internal damage.
Usually not repairable
Damage to the sidewall or shoulder, cuts and splits, bulges, or a hole that's too large for a safe repair under the standard.
Driven on while flat
Driving on a flat tyre can damage it from the inside even if the outside looks fine. If we find that damage, the tyre needs replacing.
Worn or previously repaired
Tyres at or near the legal minimum tread, or with existing repairs too close to the new damage, are normally replaced instead.
If your tyre can't be repaired, we can usually replace it during the same visit. Find out more about mobile tyre replacement, or if the tyre has gone completely flat and you need help urgently, see emergency tyre fitting.
Puncture Repair FAQs
What is BS AU 159?
BS AU 159 is the British Standard for repairing tyres on cars and light commercial vehicles. It sets out which areas of a tyre can be repaired, the maximum size of damage and how the repair must be carried out.
Can you repair a puncture in the sidewall?
No. Damage to the sidewall or shoulder of a tyre can't be repaired safely under BS AU 159, so the tyre will need to be replaced.
Is a tyre sealant or a plug a proper repair?
Sealants and external plugs are temporary measures at best. A proper repair involves removing the tyre from the wheel, inspecting it inside and fitting a repair from the inside. If you've used sealant, tell us when you call.
Do I need to be there during the repair?
We need access to the car and the locking wheel nut key if your car has one. Many customers leave us to work on the driveway or in a work car park — just let us know when you book.
Can you check my other tyres while you're there?
Yes. Ask us to look at the tread depth and condition of your other tyres while we're with you.
